1&1 Introduces DSL Plans with Short Minimum Term

2 April 2010 2 Comments

With 1&1 there is another Internet service provider in the German market offering DSL with home phone service plans with a short minimum term. Now, new subscribers can choose between DSL plans with a long term commitment of 24 months and DSL plans with a short term commitment. Officially there is no term commitment required for the new DSL plans, but since there is a notice period of three months, one might as well speak of a minimum term of three months. Monthly fees of the DSL plans range from EUR 19.99 (DSL 6000, home phone service and flat rate tariff for accessing the internet) to EUR 44.99 (VDSL 50000, home phone service and flat rate tariffs for accessing the internet and for home phone calls to German landlines).

These monthly charges for 1&1 DSL apply for the first 24 months, afterwards they rise to EUR 24.99 to EUR 49.99 per month. Depending on the residence of the customer, there is also an extra charge of EUR 5.00 for access lines in certain regions.

New subscribers choosing a DSL plan of 1&1 with a short minimum term have to pay certain one-time fees: EUR 99.90 activation fee, EUR 29.99 for a new DSL modem (with WiFi), and EUR 9.60 for shipping of the DSL hardware. New customers deciding on a long term contract only pay for shipping of the DSL modem. The DSL packages of 1&1 also include free service hotline calls and quick support in case of defects.

Short price Comparison

In comparison to DSL plans with short minimum term commitment of other Internet service providers such as congstar, Hansenet (Alice) and O2 Germany, 1&1 offers the cheapest package of a DSL 6000 access line with home phone service and flat rate tariffs for surfing the web and making home phone calls to German landlines. While subscribers of congstar, Hansenet and O2 Germany pay around EUR 30.00 per month for such a DSL bundle, 1&1 charges only EUR 24.99 over a period of two years (all without regio extra charge).

On the other hand, 1&1 charges new subscribers the highest one-time fees among all providers compared here. And: the DSL plans of 1&1 do not allow free calls to mobile phone subscribers of 1&1. Hansenet and O2 Germany do not charge their DSL customers for such community calls.
