This weekend I exchanged my cell phone for a camera and hit the road for Kreuzberg, that quarter of Berlin that is famous for its multicultural life and spirit. Just as every other year the Carnival of Cultures is presenting the cultural and ethnic diversity of Berlin and promoting the peaceful coexistence of its different cultures. Members of Berlin’s ethnic communities make their cultures – traditional or modern – visible to Berliners and Berlin visitors equally. As home to more than 450,000 people from around the world Berlin is the most international city in Germany. The big parade was yesterday and tonight the four-day street festival will end.

The city expects about 1.4 million visitors from all over the world to will join the 15th edition of the Carnival of Cultures. Read more about the Carnival of Cultures at www.karneval-berlin.de (in English).

Every year it is great fun to watch the colorful street parade with thousands of performers, musicians and decorated floats dancing through the streets and to soak in the samba rhythms. If it wasn’t for the weather you could think you are in Rio de Janeiro. Here are some of my impressions of this year’s street parade of the Carnival of Cultures.
