Cell Phone Cheapies at Tchibo Online Store

16 September 2009 4 Comments

At the moment, mobile phone provider Tchibo Mobil sells cell phone packages for prices of 14 or 15 euros. The packages are available at the Tchibo online store and do not just include a new cell phone with basic features for the casual user, but also a prepaid SIM card. Buyers can choose between Alcatel E105, Alcatel E259, Nokia 1200, Nokia 1208, Motorola C123, Motorola W230 and Sagem my200c. All these phones come with a SIM lock and can only be used with a SIM card by Tchibo Mobil. Tchibo charges additional 4.95 euros for shipping. The cell phone cheapies may be sold out soon.

These basic feature phones are suited for people looking for a second mobile phone at a cheap price, for example people from other countries travelling Germany or being on business abroad. These users can save money by making mobile phone calls within Germany with the Tchibo Mobil phone rather than calling with the mobile phone of their home provider and being charged expensive roaming fees.

With a prepaid SIM card by Tchibo Mobil mobile phone users can make domestic calls for 15 cents per minute while calls to other Tchibo Mobil connections cost 5 cents per minute. Checking voice mail is for free. For domestic SMS Tchibo Mobil charges 15 cents. Tchibo Mobil uses the network of o2 Germany.

    Hi,

I am planning to travel to Germany, Austria, Belgium and Switzerland.
1.-I would like to know the cost of a cell phone with availability on the countries already mentioned.
2.-How many minutes would I have available to use on those countries?

    Can you please help me?
    Thanks,

Hi Maria – I don’t really know what you mean. A mobile phone that does work in one of the countries will work in all the other ones as well. But you won’t find a SIM card which low rates for making phone calls in all of these countries. Either you buy a new pay as you SIM card in every single country you are visiting or you get one of these travel SIM cards. Take a look at these providers in Germany, for example:

    http://www.tourist-mobile.com/
    https://www.solomo.de:443/?function=staticContent&page=staticTariffDE&startTab=2

Or if you will only make a few phone calls you can use a regular SIM card of one provider in all of these countries. Thanks to the Euro tariff rates for roaming calls within the EU have dropped over the past years.

€ 0.42 per minute for outgoing calls
€ 0.13 per minute for incoming calls

    Does this help?

    Bjoern,
Do you have an article that goes over voice and data contract plans for Germany? My nephew just moved near Trier and will be there for 2 years. He is a heavy data user (had an Android phone in the US and used Wi-Fi a lot, also used Skype and his Google navigation)..he’s looking for something similar for a voice/data plan in Germany–any posts you have made on this or recommendations? Thanks! Olivia :)

    Hi Olivia -

you may want to check this overview of pay as you go plans with mobile data tariff options:

If your nephew speaks German he may want to try the database of http://www.teltarif.de which helps you find the best price plan for your mobile phone usage:

Regarding Skype: Most providers in Germany do not allow Skype calls over their networks and if they do they charge you extra.
