DECT Phones Hold Security Risks
Cordless telephones meeting the DECT standard (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) hold considerable security risks. According to scientists of the Technische Universität Darmstadt it is possible for computer experts to intercept calls, to reroute connections, or to make phone calls at the expense of others. All these computer experts need for it are a notebook and a DECT card.
The security risks are caused by missing routines for the mobile device at the base station as well as a short supply of encryption keys. Intercepting telephone conversations and making phone calls at the expense of others is illegal in Germany.
