Discotel and Maxxim, two low-cost providers offering prepaid price plans for mobile phone calls over the network of operator T-Mobile, grant extra airtime worth EUR 50.00 to new subscribers. New customers buying the prepaid starter package of Discotel or Maxxim until the end of May will receive an initial airtime worth EUR 5.00 as well as credit of EUR 15.00 each at the beginning of the following three months. The credit can be used for calls, text messaging (SMS) and mobile internet access.

The prepaid starter packages with the SIM card of Discotel or Maxxim are available at the provider’s websites for EUR 9.95. In order to buy the prepaid starter package customers need to indicate a residence in Germany and a banking account or a credit card number.

Both providers allow mobile phone calls and text messaging within Germany at low rates. Discotel charges EUR 0.08 per outgoing calling minute and for each text message sent to other German landlines or mobile phones. Because of a repayment the customer will receive once a year, the fees will be reduced to a calculative EUR 0.075. Maxxim charges EUR 0.08 per minute or per text message and does not refund any money at the end of the year. Checking voice mail in Germany is free of charge, accessing the internet via GPRS or UMTS costs EUR 0.49 per megabyte.

The prepaid plans of Discotel and Maxxim should not be used for international calls or text messaging from Germany to other countries because of high charges of EUR 1.99 per calling minute and EUR 0.29 per text message.
