We have spotted two interesting cell phones at German operators’ stores: Vodafone is selling the lifestyle smartphone Puma Phone manufactured by Sagem Wireless. E-Plus is offering the dual SIM phone Samsung B5722 to its customers.

The Puma Phone costs EUR 369.90 without contract and between EUR 29.90 and EUR 139.90 with 24 months contract at Vodafone stores. Even though it can already be ordered it will be ready for delivery in another week, Vodafone says. The Puma Phone comes with a 2.8-inch touch screen display with a 320 x 240 pixels resolution and 262,144 colors, a 3.2-megapixel camera, UMTS and HSDPA 7.2 support as well as bluetooth and USB connectivity. On the back plate there is an integrated solar panel for helping charge the battery in sunlight.

The operating system has been developed by Puma itself and it looks nothing like other mobile OS. For example, the Puma Phone has three different home screens with lots of typical Puma icons which you can move and relocate according to your own preferences. You can flip menu pages in order to get to the application’s settings. The Puma Phone features a turntable music player which allows you to scratch by moving your fingertip over the touch screen surface. It also sports a run and bike tracker with assisted GPS, a pedometer, a stop watch, a speed meter a yachting compass.

The Samsung B5722 comes with a 2.8-inch screen with 320 x 240 pixels resolution and 262,144 colors. Both SIM cards inside the device can be used for phone calls, SMS or MMS messaging, email and mobile internet access via GPRS or EDGE without rebooting the phone. One of the two SIM cards can be used to make phone calls on GSM networks of 850, 900, 1,800 and 1,900 MHz, the second SIM card just in GSM networks of 900 and 1,800 MHz.

The Samsung B5722 features a modified version of the user interface TouchWiz Lite 1.0, which makes the phone touch-friendly and the parallel use of two SIM cards easier. Preinstalled are social networking clients such as Facebook and MySpace as well as an instant messenger. Other features of the Samsung B5722 include a 3-megapixel camera with LED flash function, a MP3 player and an FM radio, bluetooth, USB 2.0 and a memory card slot for microSD cards with a capacity of up to 8 GB. It is rather surprising that a German network operator is marketing a dual SIM phone itself since it offers phone users the opportunity to sidestep the operator’s rates when making phone calls, texting or accessing the internet over the mobile network. I haven’t seen another dual SIM phone at a German operator’s phone store before. It seems as if E-Plus does not care so much about that because the operator is investing more and more in the potential of the several discount brands such as Ay Yildiz, Simyo or Vybemobile itself.

E-Plus offers the touch screen dual SIM phone Samsung B5722 for EUR 199.00 only to its customers who have to agree to an extension of their term commitment for another 24 months when buying this phone. However, the E-Plus postpaid price plan Mein Base under the flat rate tariff brand Base comes without a monthly charge as long as the customer does not book any flat rate tariff options.
