Low-cost provider Fonic has launched a new flat rate tariff option for accessing the internet via GPRS or UMTS over the network of O2 Germany with a mobile or smartphone. The “Handy-Internet-Paket” is available to Fonic prepaid subscribers for EUR 9.95 and includes 200 MB for faster data transmissions via EDGE, UMTS or HSPA with up to 7.2 mbps (download) over a 30-day period. After having reached the data volume limit, there are no further costs for the user, but the bandwidth will be reduced to GPRS level for the remaining days of that billing period.

The flat rate tariff option can be booked by calling the customer’s service hotline or by sending a text message with “Start Handyinternet” to the short number 36642. It will be active until the Fonic subscriber cancels it by sending another text message with “Stopp Handyinternet”.

With the Fonic prepaid price plan mobile phone users pay EUR 0.09 per minute for calls and EUR 0.09 for each text message sent to landlines and mobiles in Germany. Checking voice mail in Germany is free of charge. For international calls from Germany to 50 other countries in Europe and North America Fonic charges its subscribers EUR 0.09 per minute (to landlines) or EUR 0.29 per minute (to mobile phones).

Without the new flat rate tariff option for accessing the internet over the O2 Germany network Fonic customers pay EUR 0.24 per megabyte for mobile internet services. Alternatively they can choose the day flat rate tariff “Internet-Tagesflatrate” for EUR 2.50 for each day they actually connect to the web.
