VDSL lines (Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Lines) provide much faster data transfer rates than conventional DSL lines. Thus, VDSL is capable of supporting high bandwidth applications such as HDTV, video on demand, multimedia streaming, voice over IP and general internet access over a single connection. However, watching Alice IPTV via VDSL is not possible.
Infrastructur Mostly Owned by Deutsche Telekom
In Germany, Deutsche Telekom (T-Home) was the first operator to invest in VDSL infrastructure. Currently, Deutsche Telekom offers VDSL lines in certain parts of 51 major cities with 25 mbps or 50 mbps download speed. New customers can choose between triple play (telephony, internet, TV) and double play (telephony, internet) packages of T-Home with long minimum terms of 24 months. Prices for these VDSL packages of T-Home range between 45 and 84 euros per month. Reseller 1&1 offers a VDSL package with 24 months minimum term for 40 euros per month respectively 50 euros.
1&1 and Hansenet are using the VDSL infrastructure of Deutsche Telekom. There is no difference in availability of the VDSL packages between these three providers. Vodafone will launch VDSL packages next December. Until next year, Hansenet will be bought by O2 Germany.
