The new micro SIM card of discount provider Maxxim is a good alternative to the Apple iPad micro SIM card offers of Telekom Deutschland (T-Mobile). The Maxxim mobile data flat rate tariff “maxxim data” costs € 19.95 per month over a period of 24 months. After that two-year period the monthly charge will rise to € 29.95. There is no long minimum term commitment, though, the subscriber can withdraw from the mobile data plan contract within four weeks. In addition to the monthly fees, Maxxim charges new subscribers an one-time set-up fee of € 24.95. iPad users can order the micro SIM card with the mobile data price plan “maxxim data” at the Maxxim web store at www.maxxim.de.

The “maxxim data” price plan offers unlimited data traffic over the network of operator Telekom. As it is common usage in Germany, the “maxxim data” subscriber gets only 5 GB of data volume for faster transfers via EDGE, UMTS or HSPA with up to 7.2 mbps (download). Also, services such as instant messaging or peer to peer are not allowed. Voice over IP calls over the Telekom network are blocked. Thus, the user cannot make VoIP calls via Skype, but chat via Skype with others (even though he shouldn’t according to the general terms and conditions of this price plan). With the Maxxim micro SIM card it is not possible to make voice calls over the mobile network.

At Telekom stores iPad users can book a mobile data price plan for € 19.95 as well. However, with the Telekom offer “CombiCard Connect L” (which is only available for Telekom customers already having an iPhone plan) the iPad user only gets 3 GB of data volume per month for faster transfers over the mobile network.
