German mobile internet provider Mobook offers an UMTS surf stick for free to new subscribers of the mobile data price plan Basic. This postpaid price plan comes with a minimum term of six months and provides unlimited access to the web via GPRS or UMTS over the Vodafone network for a monthly fee of EUR 29.95. For new customers who order this flat rate tariff before January 5th, there are neither additional costs for the UMTS surf stick nor a set-up fee. But: Services such as internet telephony (voice over IP), instant messaging or peer-to-peer-services may not be used with this mobile internet price plan by Mobook.

The Basic price plan of Mobook is suited for notebook or netbook users who need an mobile internet access on a regular basis and make comparably high demands on data traffic. Basic offers 5 GB of data traffic until the maximum transmission speed is limited to 64 kbps (download speed) and 16 kbps (upload speed).

Data transmission rates in the Vodafone network reach up to 7.2 mbps (download speed) and 2 mbps (upload speed), at some train stations and airports download speed even goes up to 14.4 mbps. However, the UMTS surf stick sold by Mobook, Huawei K3715, only supports HSPA with up to 7.2 mbps and 1.45 mbps.

Notebook or netbook users who need this mobile internet access over the Vodafone network should cancel the contract in time in observance of a one-month’s term of notice, otherwise it will be extended for another 18 months! Mobook is a brand of Sparhandy, a company seated in Cologne.
