When this cost limit has been reached, the mobile internet user has transferred 12 MB and must not worry about further costs when continuing surfing the web. But the data transfer speed will be reduced to up to 64 kbps for the remaining days of that month. After having transferred 30 MB over the mobile network, the maximum transmission speed will be limited to just 2 kbps until the next billing period.
This new mobile data roaming tariff is called “Mobiles Internet Ausland” and will be activated by O2 Germany for all its postpaid and prepaid subscribers. It applies to mobile data roaming in member states of the European Union and some other European countries such as Switzerland and Norway. Mobile internet users will receive text messages informing them about their data volume consumption and upcoming data transfer speed limitations.
Just to postpaid subscribers who want to access the internet via GPRS or UMTS in another European country, O2 Germany is offering an alternative tariff option called “Internet Day Pack EU”. This mobile data roaming tariff option includes up to 50 MB data volume for faster transmissions and costs EUR 15.00 for every day, the user accesses the internet over the mobile network. After having transferred 50 MB on one day, the maximum data transfer speed will be reduced to 64 kbps until the next day.
