Every Berlin Night Could Be an Electronic Night

Sunday, classic hangover day, one might say. But of course, not only New York is a city that never sleeps. There are parties worth going to every day of the week without an exception. But where to go? During the last couple of years, Berlin got famous especially for its electronic music parties.

Some tourists only consider visiting Berlin, because they want to see the huge, factory-like seeming halls of “Berghain” – or maybe just the legendary face-tattoo-bouncer, whose communication skills appear to be limited to minimalistic nods. But even if you got turned down there, Berlin still has lots of other addresses to offer. Really popular among tourists is also “Watergate”, another large club at Schlesisches Tor, next to the Oberbaumbrücke and, most notably, next to the Spree. At sunrise, the curtains are always removed so that dancers can enjoy the morning sunlight flooding over the river. Until last summer “Bar 25” served as the magical third, most favoured location. Although it is closed now, that shouldn’t be a reason to feel distressed, because since Berlin has been mutating more and more into Siberia, dancing in the half-open building of “Bar 25” couldn’t cause much amusement.

So, it is still Sunday, apparently a classic party night. But how is it possible to find out, what specific kind of events are happening or not happening at the places to be? Or how to find even more interesting “underground” parties? Well, the websites of city magazines like zitty, tip or – especially recommendable – 030 are always reliable options. A little bit more thrilling is certainly “restrealitaet”, which means “rest of reality” in English. This portal holds kind of an exclusive aura, because it is only possible to register if you are invited by another member. Once enrolled, users have access to “secretly” posted party dates sometimes at completely unknown locations, sometimes at semi-popular venues like “Wilde Renate” or “Villa”. But it is not absolutely necessary to be part of this sect. “Hipsters” nearly have become mythical creatures in central Berlin – nobody really knows what to do, what to wear or where to register to be part of them. Do I have to buy an iPhone? Or do I need a Facebook account? And where on earth are my nerd glasses? Unfortunately, there is no clear way to Berlin’s best parties and there are also no exact directions to become hip.

But “Berghain” is really cool.
