Recommended Prepaid Price Plans for Samsung Corby Users

22 November 2009 No Comment

As already written in my review of the Samsung Corby S3650, this smartphone is suited for cell phone users who want to have access to social networking services such as Twitter, Facebook, MaySpace, Flickr, Picasa or Youtube on the way. And for users who don’t want to spend a lot of money on a new smartphone. The Samsung Corby S3650 supports GPRS and EDGE for mobile internet access and is now available at Germans stores for only EUR 126.00 without a new cell phone contract. While the Samsung Corby S3650 hasn’t arrived at Vodafone stores yet, operators E-Plus and O2 Germany sell the smartphone for young ones for prices of EUR 139.00 or EUR 149.00 with or without new cell phone plan.

The Samsung Corby S3650 has a 2.8-inch touch screen display with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and 262,144 colors. The TouchWiz user interface is similar to the one found on the Samsung Omnia smartphones. Snap shots can be made with a 3.2-megapixel camera. There is no UMTS for faster uploads and no WiFi for free internet access at hotspots at friends’ houses, in cafés or in bars.

Further, the Samsung Corby S3650 sports a media player, a FM radio, an USB port and Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support for stereo sound on the wireless headset. There is also a memory card slot for micro SD cards with up to 8 GB.

I recommend to book a small mobile data plan separately when buying the Samsung Corby S3650 in order to keep charges for mobile internet access low. With the prepaid price plan O2o operator O2 Germany offers a voice price plan without monthly fee and call charges of EUR 0.15 per minute for mobile phone calls within Germany. Possible tariff options are a mobile data pack of 30 MB for EUR 5.00 (Internet-Pack-S) or a flat rate tariff with 200 MB per month for data transfers with EDGE speed for EUR 10.00 (Internet-Pack-M).

E-Plus does not really have a prepaid price plan with attractive rates for mobile phone calls, SMS and mobile data services. Cheaper are the prepaid plans of E-Plus brands and providers such as Aldi Talk and Simyo: Aldi Talk offers a mobile data flat rate tariff for EUR 14.99 for a 30-day period with 1 GB data traffic for transfers with EDGE speed. Simyo offers a 30-day mobile data option with 1 GB for EUR 9.90. At www.simyo.de the Samsung Corby S3650 is available for EUR 126.00.
