As reported earlier the Samsung B5722 is now available at E-Plus and Base stores. E-Plus sells the touch screen dual SIM phone of Samsung for EUR 199.00 only to its existing customers, while other German web stores offer the Samsung B5722 for purchase prices beginning at EUR 170.00 without contract. That’s quite a lot of money for a mobile phone that does neither support UMTS or HSPA for faster mobile data transmissions nor WiFi for accessing the web at hotspots. The Samsung B5722 also lacks a built-in GPS receiver for the use of location based services and it is not equipped with business software that goes beyond mere organizer features. What, on the other hand, the dual SIM phone Samsung B5722 does offer, shows this review.

The Samsung B5722 comes with a 2.8-inch touch screen with 320 x 240 pixels resolution and 262,144 colors that shows pictures an other content in strong colors and contrast. The dual SIM phone features a modified version of the user interface TouchWiz Lite 1.0, which makes the phone touch-friendly and the parallel use of two SIM cards easier and offers three homescreens that can be personalized by different widgets or shortcuts. Unfortunately, every one and then it happens that you open an application accidentially because you pushed your finger too hard to the display surface. There is no multitouch and for opening applications the user must click on its icon twice like on a Symbian smartphone.

Both SIM cards inside the dual SIM phone Samsung B5722 can be used for phone calls, SMS or MMS messaging, email and mobile internet access via GPRS or EDGE without rebooting the phone. Because of a special button on the right side of the plastic body with a metall frame it is possible to quickly switch from one SIM card to the other. One of the two SIM cards can be used to make phone calls on GSM networks of 850, 900, 1,800 and 1,900 MHz, the second SIM card just in GSM networks of 900 and 1,800 MHz. It is also possible to select one of the two SIM cards as standard SIM for certain services such as, for example, texting or mobile internet access or to determine a certain point of time.

Preinstalled are shortcuts to web portals of social networking services such as Facebook, Flickr, Friendster, MySpace, Picasa and Photobucket as well as the Palringo instant messenger, the web browser Access Netfront v3.5 and an email client (POP3. IMAP, SMTP). Other features of the Samsung B5722 include a 3.2-megapixel camera with LED flash function and video capture, a MP3 player and an FM radio with Bluetooth stereo streaming (A2DP) and 3.5-millimeter headset jack, USB 2.0 and a memory card slot for microSD cards with a capacity of up to 8 GB. The shutter buttomm of the camera reacts quite slowsly when pushed and photo quality is just sufficient of the 3.2-megapixel camera is sufficient for uploading pictures to social networking portals. But you shouldn’t print or enlarge the snapshots made with the camera of the Samsung B5722 since they lack sharpness.

Speach quality of the Samsung B5722 is fine even though voices sound a little bit tinny. GSM reception could be better, though, during my tests I constantly experienced short interruptions when talkling on the phone. Due to a strong Li-Ion battery with 1,200 mAh talk time is up to 4.5 hours. The battery needs to be recharged every four or five days.

The conclusion of this review: The target group of the dual SIM phone Samsung B5722 are mobile phone users looking for a touch screen device that is not too expensive, who use social networking services on their way, and who want to have the possibility to switch between two different mobile phone connections, e.g. for making domestic and international calls or personal or business calls. People looking for a mobile internet device with a big screen and fast data transmissions have to look for another smartphone.
