The smartphone Samsung I8910 [Read the review] has demonstrated the capability of an AMOLED (active matrix organic light emitting diode) display. With the Jet S8000 Samsung has launched another smartphone with an AMOLED touch screen that is a lot smaller than the Samsung I8910. It measures just 108.9 x 53.5 x 11.9 millimeters and weighs weighs a very acceptable 110 gramm. German online shops sell the Samsung Jet S8000 without contract for prices starting at 330 euros without respectively 390 euros (with navigation software).
The Samsung Jet S8000 comes with the TouchWiz 2.0 user interface with widgets of several online services, a new visual upgrade and a new 3D cube system of selecting applications that brings a blend of the Apple iPhone and the LG KM900 Arena to mind. A 800 megahertz processor ensures that apllications start quickly and run smoothly and that the touch screen is responsive under the finders. This makes the mobile phone easy to use, however, you won’t experience any jet-like feeling using the Samsung Jet S8000. Some users of the phone might also find the menu overloaded.

The 3.1 inch touchscreen of the smartphone shows 16 million colors and has a resolution of 800 x480Â pixels. Pictures on the screen are sharp, colors are bright, and contrast is strong. Even from an angle you can still recognize what the screen displays. There is no real QWERTZ keyboard but with the built-in accelerometer for screen auto rotate the virtual keyboard appears automatically when the mobile phone is held in landscape mode. Even though the key fields of the QWERTZ keyboard are pretty small, writing with it is pretty easy.
The Samsung Jet S8000 features a 5-megapixel camera with auto focus, a media player with DivX support as well as a 3.5 millimeter jack for ordinary headsets, and a GPS receiver for geotagging and navigation services. The Dolphin web browser allows for one finger zooming and going full screen. Download speed reaches up to 3.6Â mbps, Wi-Fi is also supported.
The AMOLED touch screen is one of the strong points, the large number multi media features another. Because of its size the Samsung Jet S8000 is very pocket-friendly. The backplate of the mobile phone is a real eye-catcher. On the other hand, the smartphone gives the user some kind of plastic-feel and there is no app store by Samsung yet in which users can download additional applications for their smartphone.
