Sat.1 Sells Web Stick with Prepaid Mobile Data Plans

German TV station Sat.1 is marketing a 3G web stick and different prepaid mobile data tariffs for accessing the internet over the German Vodafone network. The prepaid starter package including the UMTS surf stick Huawei E160E, a SIM card and credit of € 10.00 is available at the Sat.1 web store at www.sticksat1.de for a purchase price of € 29.95. The SIM card for the Vodafone network with a starting balance of € 10.00, but without the web stick costs € 14.95. After having connected to the internet and opened the web browser of their laptop or netbook, users can choose on a starting page between four different prepaid mobile data plans:

  • 1 hour with 1 GB data volume costs € 0.99
  • 12 hours with 1 GB data volume cost € 1.99
  • 1 month with 500 MB data volume costs € 9.99
  • 1 month with 2 GB data volume costs € 29.99

Sat.1 is also offering different mobile data tariffs for accessing the internet outside of Germany. These tariffs include 50 MB data volume over a period of 24 hours and cost between € 14.95 and € 29.95 – depending on the countries included. New credit can be topped up by buying a Sat.1 voucher, by direct debit or by credit card. The UMTS surf stick supports GPRS, EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA 3.6 mbps.

The 500-MB tariff for a monthly charge of € 9.99 can a an attractive offer for users of the Apple iPad, especially since it is a real prepaid price plan that doesn’t cost any money when it is not used. Vodafone is marketing postpaid mobile data plans with a short minimum term commitment for the iPad. However, Sat.1 subscribers will not get a micro-SIM card which fits into an iPad but a regular-sized SIM card which they have to trim to fit into the iPad.
